BusConnects is a key part of the Government’s polices to improve public transport and address climate change in Ireland’s major urban centres. BusConnects is a program developed and managed by the National Transport Authority (NTA), and funded by Project Ireland 2040, and is also included within national policies such as ‘The National Development Plan 2021 – 2030’ and ‘The Climate Action Plan 2023’.

BusConnects includes nine initiatives:

  • Redesigning the bus network
  • Building new bus corridors and cycle lanes
  • Implementing a state of the art ticketing system
  • Implementing a cashless payment system
  • Simpler fare structure
  • New bus livery
  • New bus stops and shelters
  • New Park & Ride sites in key locations
  • Transitioning to a new zero emissions bus fleet
