The National Transport Authority (NTA) has announced an extension to its period of public consultation currently underway regarding the initial proposals to deliver 12 new Sustainable Transport Corridors (STCs) as part of the BusConnects Cork to Monday, 3rd October 2022. These proposals include approximately 93 km of bus lane/bus priority and 112km of cycle facilities across the city.

The NTA, in collaboration with Cork City Council is committed to working with all interested parties in the development of these proposed sustainable transport corridors. Public Consultation is now underway and we would like to hear from you, the public, on the initial proposals. Your feedback is really important to us to progress these proposals. These proposals will benefit from residents’ local expertise and knowledge, open dialogue and discussion. These proposals are likely to evolve as the period of consultation develops.

Speaking about the public consultation, CEO of the NTA, Ms. Anne Graham remarked ‘The NTA is pleased to announce an extension to its period of public consultation until Monday, 3rd October 2022. We strongly urge everyone to participate and have their say. Your say is really important to us to facilitate an open and meaningful discussion that meets the needs of the local community.”

“The NTA has developed initial proposals but local knowledge and community feedback is hugely important to help shape the future designs and to progress the proposals.”

“Furthermore, the proposed STCs are fundamental to realising the ambition of the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy (CMATS), developed in connection with Cork City Council to increase the number of people using public transport in Cork fourfold by 2040.”

“It also aims to expand the numbers cycling and walking by 33%. These corridors will seek to transform the public transport network into a more efficient, sustainable model to meet anticipated and future growth in the region’.
