Gráinne Mackin, Director of Communications, and Aidan Gallagher, Head of BusConnects Dublin Infrastructure, delivered a powerful and engaging presentation at Engineers Ireland. The session offered a deep look at the scale, ambition and progress of the first BusConnects Dublin Infrastructure Project, a transformative initiative that’s reshaping how people move through our capital city.

With growing demand for sustainable transport, BusConnects is a vital response to climate goals, urban development and the need for a more connected and accessible Dublin.

The presentation showcased the evolution of the project from early design concepts to planning approvals and now, construction of the Core Bus Corridors Schemes. Not only is this an important transport upgrade, it’s also a city-wide transformation backed by strong Government support and aligned with national policies like the Climate Action Plan and the National Development Plan.

One of the most powerful messages was the importance of public engagement. The planning and consultation journey has been extensive and public feedback has played a crucial role in shaping the final designs. This collaborative approach has helped build trust and deliver better outcomes for communities.

Attendees also gained insight into the complexity of the planning applications and procurement process, and how the NTA will continue to keep the public informed throughout the construction period. With timelines now in motion for early works and integration with other transport projects, the future of Dublin’s mobility is taking shape.

The vision is clear: a better-connected, more sustainable, and inclusive Dublin for all. BusConnects is about building a city that works better for everyone.
