A Draft New Bus Network designed for Limerick’s future

The National Transport Authority (NTA) published its draft new bus network for Limerick in March 2023 and a 6 week public consultation on it followed. The redesign of the bus network is one of the nine key elements of BusConnects Limerick that aims to transform the city’s bus system, making public transport more useful to more people.

Under the proposals within the Limerick bus network redesign report, the level of bus services in Limerick city and its suburbs will increase by approximately 70%. 61% of people in Limerick city would be located within 400 metres walk of a bus stop, up from 53%. The added service levels will be enabled by the extension of bus services to new areas, more routes with frequent services, an enhanced Sunday timetable and a new 24-hour route.

Consultation on the draft new network ran for 6 weeks and ended on the 7th April 2023. An online consultation process allowed members of the public to provide their feedback on the proposals. A number of information events took place to explain the proposed new network in more detail. The redesign will be finalised in the coming months and the new network will be rolled out from 2025.

The network map can be used to compare locations and frequency of existing and proposed routes and see how access would change with the new network. The network booklet, available to download below provides details of the proposed bus routes in your area and where they will connect to. Also available to view is the full draft new bus network report.
