The BusConnects Cork team has been coordinating with the Luas Cork team in recent months with regards the level of route alignment interactions between Luas Cork and the BusConnects Cork City South West Sustainable Transport Corridors Scheme. Following the publication of Luas Cork’s Preferred Route on 17 April 2026, BusConnects Cork now has a clearer picture of what Luas Cork is proposing and what implication that will have for the BusConnects Cork City South West Sustainable Transport Corridors Scheme, and specifically for that part of the scheme comprising STC F: Bishopstown to City.
On Monday 20 April, the NTA informed stakeholders that, at this time, the National Transport Authority is no longer intending to progress with the section of STC F: Bishopstown to City, from the junction of Melbourn Road/Curraheen Road through to the Western Road/Mardyke Walk junction, as part of the BusConnects Cork City South West Sustainable Transport Corridors Scheme.
It is important to note that this remains subject to change up until the point that the BusConnects Cork City South West Sustainable Transport Corridors Scheme application is lodged with An Coimisiún Pleanála. We expect that to happen later in 2026.
